*Subject to regulatory clearance in some markets. This functionality is not cleared for clinical use or commercial sale in the USA or Canada. However, RaySearch Laboratories is currently seeking research collaborations in these regions to support ongoing development and evaluation of this technology.

Developing Image-Guided Liver Ablation

Development began in 2019 through collaboration with The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, with in-house written scripts for liver ablation treatments performed at MD Anderson. Since then, these scripts have gradually evolved through continuous refinement, seamlessly integrating into RaySearch’s software.

From Image-guided ablation to radiology workstation: A Software Journey Towards comprehensive cancer care

SPEAKER:
Tom Niessen, MSc, is a Technical Product Manager at RaySearch Laboratories, leading development of software for Radiation Oncology and Radiology. With a background in physics and software engineering, he focuses on turning research innovations into clinically impactful products used in hospitals worldwide.



RaySearch will present its upcoming software, RayImaging, designed for advanced image viewing. RayImaging will include the essentials such as seamless PACS integration, flexible layouts, and support for displaying a broad range of medical images and DICOM objects.

In addition to these core functions, the platform will also offer specialized tools, that have been built from the last 15 years of RaySearch's experience developing imaging software. These include rigid image registration and fusion, deformable registration algorithms, manual and automatic segmentation capabilities, and workflow automation with python scripting. In the future, RayImaging will become a complete package with support for reporting, automated workflows, integration with information systems, and more.

This functionality is currently under development, not yet available for sale, and will require regulatory clearance before release.

External beam and brachytherapy planning in the same system. Our brachytherapy module is fully integrated into the EBRT workspace, giving clinics one unified environment for all modalities.

Key features include:

  • Hardware-agnostic with full vendor independence— model any applicator and deliver plans on any afterloader system, independent on vendor.

  • EQD2 – enabling dose evaluation across modalities for combined external beam and brachytherapy treatments. 

  • Automation through scripting, templates and inverse planning workflows—reducing manual effort and increasing consistency. 

  • Advanced dose computation including Monte Carlo algorithms (TG-186) for improved accuracy in heterogeneous tissues.

RayStation and RayCare are subject to regulatory clearance in some markets. RayStation v2025 SP1 is pending FDA 510(k) clearance and is not currently available for sale or clinical use in the United States. Image-guided ablation, DrugLog, and RayImaging are currently under development, not yet available for sale in the United States, and will require regulatory clearance before release.
